Toney Barker

Talophuleis “Toney” Barker is currently the Lead First Surgical Assistant at Ochsner Healthcare in Jefferson, Louisiana. In this position Toney fulfills many critical functions including the training of medical students on gowning, gloving and sterility best practices; the training of Cardiac Fellows on individual staff surgeon preferences; and the training of new Surgical First Assistants on surgical, suturing and other techniques to provide the best patient care. In 2004 Toney successfully completed an Associate of Applied Science Program at Milwaukee Area Technical College, and in 2009 he completed the Surgical Assistant Program at the same institution. When new vein harvesters have completed initial Terumo EVH training, Toney continues working with them until proficiency is achieved.
